US ferrous scrap exports up 26 percent in August

According to the latest statistics released by the United States International Trade Commission, the country's ferrous scrap exports totaled 2.36 million metric tons in August, increasing by 26.39 percent year on year, and up 41.96 percent over July.

In August this year, the US' largest ferrous scrap export market was China, with exports of 731,600 metric tons. China was followed by Turkey, with ferrous scrap exports of 410,000 metric tons, and by South Korea with 337,532 metric tons.

On the other hand, in the January-August period the US exported 14.56 million metric tons of ferrous scrap, down 4.47 percent year on year. In the period in question, China imported 4.22 million metric tons of ferrous scrap from the US, while Turkey imported 2.46 million metric tons and South Korea imported 1.98 million metric tons.
