US iron and steel scrap exports fall 54 percent in January

According to the latest figures from the US ITC, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 552,559 mt in January, which is a 54 percent decrease month-on-month and a 47 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in January, with 105,419 mt, which is down 68 percent year-on-year and down 77 percent month-on-month. Other notable destinations in January include: India, with 88,405 mt; Mexico with 63,691 mt; Peru, with 57,500 mt; and Taiwan, with 55,812 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $159.3 million in January, a 46 percent decrease compared to December and a 56 percent decrease compared to January 2015.
