US line pipe imports down 4.8 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 47,794 mt in May 2023, down 4.8 percent from April and down 3.4 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $100.4 million in May 2023, compared to $111.5 million in April and $84.3 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most line pipe from South Korea in May, with 14,994 mt, compared to 9,572 mt in April and 13,372 mt in May 2022. Other top sources of imported line pipe in May include Germany, with 5,829 mt; Mexico, with 5,173 mt; Italy, with 4,077 mt; and South Africa, with 3,642 mt.
