According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending February 6, 2016, US domestic raw steel production was 1,685,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 71.9 percent. Production was 1,705,000 net tons in the week ending February 6, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 72.4 percent. The current week production represents a 1.2 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending February 6, 2016 is up 1.7 percent from the previous week ending January 30, 2016 when production was 1,657,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 70.7 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through February 6, 2016 was 9,698,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 68.0 percent. That is down 9.6 percent from the 10,730,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.4 percent.
