US rebar imports down 23.3 percent in August

According to preliminary census data released this week by the US Department of Commerce, the US imported 202,628 mt of rebar in August, a 23.3 percent decrease from July but a 20.1 percent increase from August 2015.
 
The top sources for imported rebar in August were Turkey, with 106,182 mt (down 47.1 percent month-on-month and down 1.1 percent year-on-year); Taiwan, with 48,900 mt (up 129.7 percent month-on-month, while up completely from August 2015, which had zero imports from the country); and Japan, with 34,196 mt (up 426.9 percent month-on-month but down 23 percent year-on-year).
