US steel exports fall 0.4 percent in February

According to US steel export data, monthly exports in February decreased 0.4 percent from January to total 706,706 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows an 11.3 percent decline. Exports to Mexico fell 0.9 percent from the preceding month to 268,100 mt, but this was 12.5 percent less than February 2015. Exports to Canada increased by a slight 0.3 percent to 356,134 mt, which is 18.4 percent less than a year earlier.

Other major destinations for US steel exports in February include: Brazil, at 9,166 mt; India, at 8,468 mt; Belgium, at 5,710 mt; China, at 5,374 mt; and Venezuela, at 4,913 mt.

Major products exported in February include HDG, at 98,551 mt; cut-length plates, at 84,913 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 59,287 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 56,696 mt; and heavy structural shapes, at 36,577 mt.
