US steel exports increase 7.8 percent in January

According to US steel export data, monthly exports in January increased 7.8 percent from December to total 709,574 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 15.4 percent decline. Exports to Mexico grew 1.8 percent from the preceding month to 270,607 mt, but this was 11.6 percent less than in January 2015. Exports to Canada increased 12.2 percent to 355,016 mt, 18.6 percent less than a year earlier.

Other major destinations for US steel exports in January include: Chile, at 11,344 mt; China, at 6,880 mt; Dominican Republic, at 6,202 mt; Belgium, at 6,080 mt; and India, at 4,633 mt.

Major products exported in January include HDG, at 108,234 mt; cut-length plates, at 79,437 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 54,350 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 49,837 mt; and hot rolled bars, at 33,217 mt.
