US steel exports jump 10 percent in August

According to US export data, monthly steel exports in August increased 10.0 percent from July to total 736,644 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 2.2 percent decline. In terms of value, US exports in August totaled $931.1 million, compared to $864.5 million in July and $1.01 billion in August 2015.
 
Exports to Mexico increased 13 percent from the preceding month to 304,903 mt, and increased 6.1 percent from August 2015. Exports to Canada increased by 11.5 percent month-on-month to 369,700 mt, which is down 0.3 percent from a year earlier.
 
Other major destinations for US steel exports in August include: China, at 7,735 mt; India, at 5,620 mt; Italy, at 3,423 mt; Korea, at 3,160 mt; and Belgium, at 2,923 mt.
 
Major products exported in August include HDG, at 107,733 mt; cut-length plates, at 93,599 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 60,528 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 50,654 mt; and plates in coils, at 39,515 mt.
