US steel mill shipments drop 3.6 percent in July

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of July 2016, US steel mills shipped 7,352,698 net tons, a 3.6 percent decrease from the 7,628,953 net tons shipped in the previous month, June 2016, and a 3.2 percent decrease from the 7,591,897 net tons shipped in July 2015.
 
Shipments year-to-date in 2016 are 51,491,101 net tons, a 0.2 percent decrease vs. 2015 shipments of 51,572,190 net tons for seven months.
 
A comparison of July 2016 shipments to the previous month shows the following changes: cold rolled sheets, down 5 percent; hot rolled sheets, down 5 percent and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 8 percent.
