US steel mill shipments rise 6.3 percent in March

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2016, US steel mills shipped 7,377,392 net tons, a 6.3 percent increase from the 6,939,442 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2016, and a 1.5 percent increase from the 7,270,793 net tons shipped in March 2015. Shipments year-to-date in 2016 are 21,348,141 net tons, a 2.8 percent decrease vs. 2015 shipments of 21,959,131 net tons for three months.

A comparison of March shipments to the previous month of February shows the following changes: cold rolled sheets, up 26 percent, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 7 percent and hot rolled sheets, up 4 percent.
