US steel mill shipments rise 7.2 percent in January

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of January 2016, US steel mills shipped 7,031,307 net tons, a 7.2 percent increase from the 6,556,342 net tons shipped in the previous month, December 2015, and a 9.4 percent decrease from the 7,762,742 net tons shipped in January 2015.

A comparison of January 2016 shipments to the previous month of December 2015 shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets, up 13 percent, cold rolled sheets, up 12 percent and hot rolled sheets, up 2 percent.
