US steel mill shipments up 1.5 percent in December

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of December 2015, US steel mills shipped 6,556,342 net tons, a 1.5 percent increase from the 6,457,870 net tons shipped in the previous month, November 2015, and a 17.8 percent decrease from the 7,978,310 net tons shipped in December 2014. Shipments for full year 2015 are 86,546,657 net tons, a 11.9 percent decrease vs. full year 2014 shipments of 98,248,666 net tons.

A comparison of December shipments to the previous month of November shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 9 percent, cold rolled sheet, up 3 percent, and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 1 percent.
