Brazilian flats producer Usiminas confirmed it has bought slab from ThyssenKrupp’s Companhia Siderurgica do Atlantico (TKCSA) to supply its industrial needs, according to a media report.

In December, the steelmaker bought 6,000 mt of the product from TKCSA for quality tests. Earlier this year, the flats producer ordered 130,000 mt of slabs for use at its mills.

Usiminas said it purchased the material as both its port terminal as well as its hot and cold rolling mills continue operating at the company’s Cubatao mill, in the city of same name in the state of Sao Paulo.

Meanwhile, Usiminas and MRS Logistics agreed to terminate a contract for the transportation of iron ore through MRS’ railways. Usiminas’ iron ore affiliated company, Usiminas Mineracao SA, also known as Musa, will pay MRS BRL 315.4 mill in 10 installments for the termination of the contract.
