Vale to finance research on transforming iron ore waste into asphalt

Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale, along with Itajuba’s Federal University (Unifei) and Fapepe, Itajuba’s research entity, signed a deal allowing Vale to finance a study on transforming iron ore waste into asphalt.
 
Under the terms of the deal, Vale will invest BRL 3 million ($955,000) in the initiative. The deal was signed in February and will allow further investments in technology, research and innovation.
 
Vale officials, including the company’s innovation and technology director, Luiz Mello, the company’s manager of operations in Itabira, Fernando Carneiro, and technology intelligence manager, Fabiano Tonucci, as well as Unifei representatives signed the deal.
