Vale’s iron ore exports in February rose 19 percent, year-on-year, to 24.4 million mt, according to data released this week by the nation’s Union of the Industry of Extraction of Iron and Base Metals (Sinferbase). The number includes exports by Vale’s affiliated companies.

Vale’s iron ore sales in the domestic market in the second month of the year increased nearly 14 percent, year-on-year, to 1.13 million mt.

Brazil’s total iron ore exports in February rose to 25.4 million mt, from 22.9 million mt in the same month of the year prior. Other producers include Anglo American, MMX and Samarco.

Sinferbase’s figures for Brazil’s iron ore exports differ from the numbers presented by the nation’s ministry of development, industry and foreign trade, MDIC. Sinferbase said it collects iron ore exports figures directly from affiliated companies.
