Brazilian steelmaker Votorantim Siderurgia suspended some of the dismissals announced late in September, following the halt of an electric arc furnace (EAF) at its Barra Mansa mill, located in the city of same name in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Votorantim announced it would dismiss 35 workers at the mill, but according to a media report, it laid off 12 employees. A media report said the halt at the Marra Bansa mill will not be permanent.

Votorantim Siderurgia told media it is concentrating steel output at its Resende mill, due to current bearish market conditions. It said both mills are equally important to the steelmaker, which evaluates permanently market conditions looking for signs of improvement in the local economy.
