Workers at miner Shougang Hiero Peru (SHP) have started a strike, after failing to reach an agreement with the administration, in relation to collective negotiations for the period 2023-2024. According to the local press, the strike is expected to last until August 29.
Meanwhile, the company informed the country’s stocks market authority, SMV, that the regional authority for solving disputes declared not valid the announcement of the strike by the workers union, asking the workers of Shougang not to join the strike, under the threat of committing an illegal act.
SHP is responsible for 98 percent of the iron ore produced in Peru. During the first half of the year, the company produced 7.0 million mt of iron ore, a 16.5 percent increase on a yearly basis.
