In July this year, world pig iron production amounted to 96.97 million mt, decreasing by 0.8 percent compared to June and increasing 0.5 percent compared to the same month of 2015, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the January-July period of this year, world pig iron production totaled 670.22 million mt, down 1.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
In July, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 75.48 million mt, up 1.7 percent, with 57.8 million mt produced by China, up 1.7 percent, 6.94 million mt produced by Japan, down 0.4 percent, and 5.29 million mt produced by India, growing by 6.1 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.52 million mt of pig iron, down 3.8 percent, while the CIS produced 6.71 million mt, up 4.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
