Zaporizhstal issues Jan-May 2009 production results

The Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal has issued its preliminary production results for the first five months of 2009.

Accordingly, during the period in question Zaporizhstal decreased its finished steel production by 26.9 percent and its crude steel production by 28.3 percent year on year, to 1.120 million mt and 1.337 million mt respectively. Zaporizhstal's agglomerate production went down by 16.8 percent year on year and its pig iron production declined by 25.9 percent. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.997 million and 1.117 million.

In May 2009, Zaporizhstal produced 392,000 mt of agglomerate - up 5.1 percent, 217,000 mt of pig iron - up 2.8 percent, 252,000 mt of crude steel - down 1.2 percent, and 223,000 mt of finished steel products - up 7.2 percent, all compared to April 2009.
