Zlatoust Metallurgical Works (ZMZ), a subsidiary of the Russian steel producer ESTAR Holding, plans to increase its output of rolled steel products in August to 20,000 mt, compared to just 5,700 mt in July.
In addition, ZMZ also intends to increase its crude steel production in August to 16,000 mt, up 84 percent month on month but down 72 percent year on year.
Also in August, ZMZ's plans to step up its steel product shipments to over 20,000 mt, four times higher than in July, the minister of industry and natural resources of Russia's Chelyabinsk region, Evgeny Teftelev, stated. "During the last nine months there was no such level of shipments. The highest levels of shipments in the last nine months were 8,000 mt, 12,000 mt and 15,000 mt," Mr. Teftelev said.
Furthermore, according to Mr. Teftelev, on August 12 ZMZ is to restart one of its three open hearth furnaces.
The increase of ZMZ's production capacity in August will be possible due to the earlier reported trilateral strategic partnership agreement reached between ZMZ, Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, a subsidiary of Russian mining and steel producing group Mechel, and the Chelyabinsk regional administration. The agreement in question is to be signed in the very near future.
