Turkish re-rolling companies have started the week with further price increases in the domestic market, citing the latest surge in import scrap prices and also the strength of hot rolled coil (HRC) prices. The workable levels for cold rolled coil (CRC) and coated steel are yet to be seen, but a certain amount of the increase may be accepted.
Currently, the official domestic prices for hot dip galvanized (HDG) coils in Turkey are at $880-905/mt ex-works for January-February production, up from $850-900/mt ex-works seen at the end of last week. Export offers, to markets like the EU and Ukraine, are mainly at $850-860/mt FOB base, SteelOrbis has learned. In the pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) segment, prices have increased by $10-35/mt over the same period to $990-1,035/mt ex-works, while the FOB levels are mainly at $950-1,000/mt FOB depending on the mill.
Notably, the local tinplate base prices have also increased this week following several weeks of stable movement. Some of the new offers for base specifications have been reported at $960/mt ex-works for February-March production.
Domestic CRC offers in Turkey are now mainly at $810-845/mt ex-works, versus $800-820/mt ex-works a week ago. Only several re-rollers, according to sources, are still selling at $800/mt ex-works.
