Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed a slightly upward trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed upward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,660/mt ($515/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,680/mt ($518/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,760/mt ($530/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Chinese steel section prices have showed a fluctuation with slight upticks during the past week. Overall trading activity has remained weak due to off season and cold weather. Upstream billet prices and steel futures market have fluctuated with an upward trend which mainly caused steel section prices to follow. Production volume recently has been decreasing since margins are quite limited and demand has been weak. As for the week ahead, given the weak demand and support from cost side, it is believed that steel section prices may see slight fluctuations.
