Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 250-400/mt ($6-11/mt) against the backdrop of the ongoing currency fluctuations and the positive sentiment in the import scrap and billet segments. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 18,600/mt ($643/mt) ex-works today.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for December-early January delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 24,600/mt ($851/mt) ex-works for delivery in the Karabuk region. “Costlier scrap and billet prices have led to increases in merchant bar prices, while buyers are exerting pressure for further discounts,” one source commented.
