Even though there has been some activity in the import longs market in Romania in the last few weeks, business activity in the local market has been fairly limited due to the start of the holidays and the winter season. As a result of no improvement in the domestic outlook, Romania's sole rebar producer and local traders have chosen to keep prices stable week on week.
According to reports, domestic rebar prices in Romania are now at €600-605/mt ex-works, unchanged from the previous week. Retail rebar prices are also stable week on week, at €570-585/mt ex-warehouse.
On the other hand, the wire rod market is still quite weak and so the majority of traders have decided to maintain last week’s prices at €570–590/mt ex-warehouse.
Meanwhile, although Romanian traders showed some interest in restocking in recent weeks, no purchases have been reported this week and most import offers have remained relatively stable. According to sources, ex-Moldova rebar offers have remained at €620/mt CPT, though the supplier is offering reductions at €610/mt CPT. Similarly, Greece has kept rebar and wire rod prices stable week on week at €625-650/mt CFR and €625-640/mt CFR, respectively.
Egypt, which is one of the cheaper options for Romanian traders, has continued to provide both rebar and wire rod offers at €565-575/mt CFR, which is the same as last week. In addition, ex-Turkey offers based on mills′ prices of $580-600/mt FOB and freight rates of $25-30/mt have increased by €5/mt to €555-575/mt CFR at the current €1 = $1.10 exchange rate, up from €555-565/mt CFR in the previous transactions.
