Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have fallen by TRY 230/mt ($15/mt) in the Iskenderun region, while remaining stable in the local currency and down $7/mt in the rest of the country, against the backdrop of ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has today issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 19,000/mt ($646/mt) ex-works.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for late January or February delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 24,600/mt ($837/mt) ex-works for delivery to the Karabuk region, also down by TRY 250/mt ($17/mt) over the past week.
Most buyers are postponing their new purchases until after the New Year holiday and are monitoring the import scrap and billet price trends.
