Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have mostly softened by TRY 50-60/mt ($4/mt), while remaining unchanged in the local currency in the Iskenderun region, with minor changes on US dollar basis, against the backdrop of the ongoing currency fluctuations and relatively sluggish demand. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has today issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 19,100/mt ($658/mt) ex-works, though the deferred payment terms have been revised, SteelOrbis has heard.

Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for January-February delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 24,800/mt ($854/mt) ex-works for delivery to the Karabuk region, remaining unchanged in the local currency while down by $3/mt on US dollar basis over the past week. Most local buyers are not in a rush to restock material due to the adverse weather conditions and the unclear financial situation in the country.
