Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have increased by TRY 500-700/mt ($17-24/mt) amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and costlier scrap and billet. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 19,100/mt ($660/mt) ex-works today.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for late December-January delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 24,800/mt ($857/mt) ex-works for delivery in the Karabuk region. The general sentiment on the demand side is negative as most local buyers are experiencing difficulties in loan repayments amid high interest rates for trade.
