Today, December 4, Turkish domestic rebar spot prices have risen by TRY 200-600/mt ($5-17/mt) compared to Thursday, November 30, amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and costlier scrap. Accordingly, 12 mm rebar spot prices in Turkey have settled at TRY 20,500-21,300/mt or $592-615/mt ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with an exchange rate of $1 = TRY 28.88.
Icdas has issued its official dollar-based rebar price at $600/mt ex-works today. The general rebar price range varies at $595-620/mt ex-works, versus $580-605/mt ex-works a week ago, in the Marmara and Izmir regions. Sources report that a small-tonnage rebar lot has been traded at $590/mt ex-works in the Izmir region. However, the final tonnage has not been clarified by the time of publication.
One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its rebar price at TRY 21,600/mt ex-works, equal to $623/mt ex-works at the current exchange rate.
Most Turkish mills are attempting to raise their rebar prices in line with the higher import scrap and billet prices, while the sentiment on the demand side is still negative due to the adverse weather conditions and loan repayment issues.
As of today, rebar offers in the Turkish spot market are as follows:
