Turkish merchant bar export prices move upwards

As of today, December 8, a few Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are offering export prices at $650-670/mt FOB, up by $10/mt on the higher end from a week earlier, against the backdrop of costlier import scrap and billet. Currently, official ex-Turkey equal angle offers are mostly standing at $650-670/mt FOB, for late January-February shipment. Demand is relatively better due to the holiday season and the upward trend in the import scrap segment. "Earlier this week, a few merchant bar re-roller concluded some deals at $630-640/mt FOB, depending the region and quantity. However, the minimum price for equal angles should be at $650/mt FOB under the current market conditions, " one source commented.

The main difficulty in the export segment seems to be that of setting a reasonable export offer price for extended shipment given the significant price rises for import scrap and billet.

The SteelOrbis daily Turkish billet import reference price stands at $540-560/mt, versus $525-550/mt a week ago.
