Turkish merchant bar export prices trend up

Over the past week, a few Turkish merchant bar re-rollers have been offering export prices at $650-670/mt FOB, rising by $10/mt amid the recent upward movement of import scrap and billet prices. Currently, official ex-Turkey equal angle offers are mostly standing at $650-670/mt FOB, for February shipment.

"A few merchant bar re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing policies to generate sales. However, the main challenge in the merchant bar export segment is the recent price hike in freight rates given the situation in the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, which remains disturbing, with the attacks by Houthi militants, who control southern Yemen, continuing," one source commented.

The SteelOrbis daily Turkish billet import reference price stands at $530-545/mt, versus $525-540/mt a week ago.
