Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have fallen by TRY 50-500/mt in the local currency in the Iskenderun and Denizli regions, declining by $6-20/mt/mt on US dollar basis, while merchant bar prices in the Karabuk and Izmir regions have remained unchanged, down by $4/mt amid the ongoing currency fluctuations. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has set its equal angle price at TRY 19,700-20,000/mt ($637-647/mt ex-works, with a decrease of TRY 500/mt ($20/mt), at an exchange rate of $1 = TRY 30.91.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for March delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 26,200/mt ($848/mt) for delivery to the Karabuk region. Most local buyers are exerting pressure for further discounts in line with the negative sentiment in the import scrap and billet segments.
