US import rebar interest picks up

Strong demand for rebar in the US coupled with adequate to tight capacity within the US domestic rebar market has increased interest in rebar imports, sources say, even though import offers are continuing to trend mostly stable.

US import rebar offers from Egypt are still being heard around $37.00-$38.00 cwt. ($816-$838/mt or $740-$760/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, with offers heard from Oman and UAE around the same level. Offers from Mexico are also unchanged week-on-week at $38.00-$39.00 cwt. ($838-$860/mt or $760-$780/nt) DDP Houston.
