Local coke prices in China have moved up this week as mills have accepted the second round of price increases proposed last week. The first round of increases was announced last Monday. Ex-China coke prices have risen as well. Coke prices are supported by higher coal prices.
First-grade coke prices in Tangshan are at RMB 2,530/mt ($356/mt) ex-warehouse, moving up by RMB 110/mt, according to SteelOrbis’ data.

Supply of local coking coal is still limited in China due to inspections following recent frequent accidents at mines, and this has bolstered prices. It is thought that coke prices in the Chinese domestic market may edge up further in the coming week.
Offer prices of coke CSR65 in the export market have risen to $355/mt FOB, up by $7/mt compared to the previous week. A deal has been rumored at $350/mt FOB.
Import premium hard coking coal prices in China have increased from $320-325/mt CFR to $330/mt CFR. The market is awaiting the result of a tender for 72,000 mt of low-volatile PHCC from Australia, which is most probably for the Chinese market. “I think it should be around $320/mt FOB,” a trader said.
Also, an ex-Russia PCI deal was done at $175/mt CFR China.
