Prices for ex-Australia premium hard coking coal (PHCC) have increased gradually in a fresh deal and some higher bids have been reported in the market, signaling that demand is still firm and supportive of prices.

A deal for 40,000 mt of mid-volatile Goonyella PHCC was done at $325/mt FOB for early January laycan, up by $5/mt from the previous deal. An offer at GlobalCoal also for mid-volatile material was at $340/mt FOB. “The tradable price is $320-325/mt FOB now as Indian mills will gradually restock for January shipment,” a trader said.

The workable level for low-volatile PHCC in China is still at $320-325/mt CFR.
