Import scrap prices in Taiwan have remained weak due to the limited rebar sales in the local Taiwanese rebar market. Major Taiwanese producer Feng Hsin has kept its rebar prices stable week on week at TWD 19,400/mt ($632/mt) ex-works, with prices moving up by $8/mt on dollar basis amid exchange rate fluctuations.
Offers for ex-US HMS I/II (80:20) scrap in containers to Taiwan are now at $377-384/mt, from $382-395/mt CFR recorded last week. Prices fixed in actual deals have also moved down from $380/mt CFR to $373/mt CFR. A source at a major Taiwanese producer commented, “US scrap deals may be done at $370/mt CFR and perhaps below.”
Japanese scrap suppliers are sharing offers for H1/2 (50:50) scrap by bulk to Taiwan at unchanged levels of $389-395/mt CFR.
Domestic HMS I/II 80:20 scrap prices in Taiwan have moved sideways in the local currency during the past week at TWD 12,100/mt ($398/mt) delivered to mill, moving up by $8/mt on dollar basis.
