The leading Japanese EAF steel producer Tokyo Steel has announced a cut of JPY 500/mt in scrap purchase prices at three of its plants. The general purchase price ranges for H2 and shindachi grade scrap have not changed after this move. However, due to the appreciation of the Japanese yen against the US dollar, dollar-based prices have increased by $3/mt as compared to the levels announced on June 3.
After the announcement, Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap has remained stable at JPY 48,500-51,500/mt ($311-330/mt) depending on the mill.
Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have also remained unchanged at JPY 50,500-53,000/mt ($324-340/mt). The prices are delivered and effective as of June 6.
