The leading Japanese EAF steel producer Tokyo Steel has reduced its scrap purchase price for its Utsunomiya plant, after the hike announced on January 16. Despite the change, the general range of the steelmaker’s scrap purchase prices has remained stable week on week.

Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap has moved sideways at JPY 50,000-53,000/mt ($339-359/mt) depending on the mill. The dollar equivalent has decreased by $2/mt due to fluctuations in the Japanese yen-US dollar exchange rate.

Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have also remained unchanged at JPY 51,000-54,000/mt ($345-366/mt), also decreasing by $2/mt on dollar-basis. All the prices in question are delivered and effective as of January 26.
