The leading Japanese EAF steel producer Tokyo Steel has announced price increases for two locations, the rise was JPY 1,500/mt for H2 grade scrap in Tahara and Nagoya yards. As SteelOrbis reported before, Tahara plant is under maintenance until late June due to the previous fire in the plant. However, this increase in prices signals that the mill is preparing its scrap inventories for after the repairment of damages.
After the announcement, Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap has increased by JPY 1,500/mt on the lower end to JPY 50,000-51,500/mt ($316-325/mt) depending on the mill. While the lower end was raised by $5/mt by this revision, the upper end declined by $5/mt due to the depreciating Japanese yen.
Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have moved up by JPY 500/mt on the lower end to JPY 51,000-53,000/mt ($323-335/mt). As a result, the dollar-based prices declined by $1/mt on the lower end and by $5/mt on the upper end. The prices are delivered and effective as of June 18.
