Turkey’s domestic scrap prices continue to weaken on dollar-basis

Friday, 05 January 2024 16:52:55 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Over the past week, most Turkish producers have kept their domestic scrap purchase prices stable. The depreciation of the Turkish lira against the major currencies has resulted in a $2-4/mt decline in dollar-based quotations. One Turkish mill has reduced its prices by TRY 150/mt or $9/mt. Turkey’s import scrap prices have moved up in the current week, leading Turkish mills to maintain their domestic scrap prices to secure inflow of material. However, the uptrend of import scrap prices may cause increases in the local scrap market in the coming period.

While the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has remained at TRY 11,200-12,400/mt, dollar-based quotations are now at $375-416/mt.
