Turkey’s ship scrap market moves down, following import prices

As Turkey’s import scrap prices continue their downtrend unabated, Izmir-based Turkish producers are also reducing their ship scrap prices. While three Izmir-based producers have cut their prices by $8-10/mt, the general purchase price range is now at $375-400/mt, down by $10/mt on the upper end recorded on March 1. The mills representing the lower end are mostly out of the market, not active in buying. The negative sentiments in the deep and short sea scrap segments are expected to impact the ship scrap market in the coming days, exerting further downward pressure.

In Turkey’s Izmir region, the ship scrap purchase prices of local steelmakers are as follows:
