Most Izmir-based Turkish steel producers have increased their ship scrap purchase prices significantly today, December 5, with the rises announced in the range of $18-23/mt to $375-403/mt, moving up from $375-380/mt for delivery to mill by truck. The higher end of the price range is now represented by two mills located in Izmir that usually work with domestic scrap and not imports. Meanwhile, a major mill in the region, IDC, is keeping its ship scrap quotations stable at $375/mt, probably as it is awaiting arrivals of deep sea scrap cargoes. The rise in the ship scrap market is the result of the similarly sharp upward movements seen in the deep sea and short sea scrap segments.
