US domestic HSS prices steady on lackluster demand

Current average spot market prices for US domestic HSS tubing are flat week on week amid unremarkable demand and steady HRC pricing, sources tell SteelOrbis.

HSS prices are unchanged at $64.00 cwt. ($1,411/mt or $1,280/nt), FOB mill. During the last week of March, prices were pegged at $59.50 cwt. ($1,312/mt or $1,190/nt) FOB mill, as HSS spot prices increased amid $4.00 cwt ($88/mt or $80/nt) gains in HRC pricing in early April.

“HSS prices have not moved in the last couple of weeks,” a source told SteelOrbis. “The majors are at $64.50 cwt. ($1,422/mt or $1,290/nt) FOB mill, though they are discounting around $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on large jobs.”

“The market is very unsure right now,” said one source. “Demand is just okay, and the direction of flat rolled markets is determining changes in HSS pricing.”
