The global steel giant ArcelorMittal has announced that ArcelorMittal Poland has approved a €58 million investment plan for four projects, including a major new production line at its steelmaking facility at Dąbrowa Górnicza.
The company stated that its plan to produce 120 meter rails was reapproved by its investment allocation committee in July, after the project was put on hold in 2011 due to capital investment limitations and the difficult economic situation in Europe. A total of €36 million is being invested in the rail project, of which €4 million was spent in 2011, mainly on construction in the heavy section mill where the rail line will be installed. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2013.
Additionally, revamping of the basic oxygen furnace No. 2 at Dąbrowa Górnicza at a cost of around €14 million will be completed in late 2013. The company is also revamping the hot dip galvanized (HDG) line at its Świętochłowice plant. ArcelorMittal Poland's fourth investment is for a sheet piles service center with an annual capacity of 85,000 mt. The service center will be commissioned next year to provide a handling system for pairing, crimping and cutting sheet piles.
