EU’s organic coated sheet import quotas mostly exhausted

Approaching the end of the EU quota period between October 1 to December 31, some of the import quotas for certain steel products allocated for Turkey, “other countries”, Taiwan and China have been exhausted, while over 60 percent of quotas for some steel products have been used up, according to the European Commission’s data.

Looking at the exhausted quotas, the quotas of 477,237 mt for metallic coated sheets (4A), 43,331 mt for organic coated sheets, 37,515 mt for tin mill products and 21,010 mt for hollow sections allocated for “other countries” have been exhausted. In addition, the quota of 76,231 mt for angles and sections for “other countries” has been exceeded with 740 mt waiting at EU ports.

The quotas of 25,525 mt and 15,889 mt for organic coated sheets allocated for Taiwan and Turkey, respectively, have been exhausted. India and South Korea have used up 99.99 percent of the quota of 79,455 mt and 94.18 percent of the quota of 79,620 mt for organic coated sheets, respectively, while the UK has only used 34.58 percent of its quota of 47,807 mt for the given product.

Regarding the quotas allocated for Turkey, the country has exhausted its 49,976 mt gas pipe and 15,095 mt large welded tube (25B) quotas. Also, Turkey has used up 66.01 percent of the quota of 493,430 mt for HRC, 86.07 percent of the quota of 22,910 mt for stainless cold rolled sheets and strips, 68.96 percent of the quota of 95,437 mt for rebar, 72.69 percent of the quota of 46,339 mt for other welded pipes and 66.87 percent of the quota of 59,425 mt for non-alloy wire quotas.

In addition, the 46,583 mt stainless CRC and 141,849 mt HRC quotas for Taiwan and the 38,808 mt other seamless pipe and 10,099 mt large welded tube (25B) quotas for China have been used up.
