ArcelorMittal Poland to switch to clean energy at Bytom SSC

Monday, 23 December 2024 12:35:43 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

ArcelorMittal Poland, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based steel giant ArcelorMittal, has partnered with Poland-based solar energy company Quanta Energy to achieve energy transformation at its steel service center (SSC) in Bytom, in line with decarbonization efforts.

Accordingly, Quanta Energy will build a 1 MW solar power farm consisting of 1,692 photovoltaic panels at the SSC. Moreover, the steel produced at the production line of Bytom will be utilized for the construction works. In the meantime, the energy company estimates that during the summer ArcelorMittal will be able to use up to 90 percent of clean energy generated by the farm for its own consumption. With the help of the investment, the steelmaker will strengthen its competitiveness in the long term.

The farm, which will power the entire SSC, is scheduled for commissioning in the second quarter of 2025.
