Brazil concludes investigation of high carbon steel wire imports from China

Thursday, 17 November 2016 00:12:25 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo
Brazil's foreign trade secretariat, Secex, concluded an investigation over the Chinese imports of high-grade carbon steel wire.

Secex indicated that Brazilian imports from China of cold-drawn high-carbon steel wire products falling under the HTS codes 7217.10.19 and 7217.10.90 caused damages to Brazil’s domestic steel industry.

Secex concluded imports of those products were made at dumped prices and contributed “significantly” to the existence of damages to the domestic steel industry.

Secex said it used the US as a third market economy to make the proper comparisons, which then indicated the dumping practices.

The investigation followed a request from local producer Belgo Bekaert, a JV between ArcelorMittal and N.V. Bekaert.
