Brazil’s national transport agency (ANTT) said on Wednesday it will recommend annulling a Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) railway contract, according to a document filing.
CSN owns the Transnordestina railway, a 1,073-mile railway project connecting 81 cities in Brazil. The project has been delayed for years and has cost CSN BRL 6.4 billion ($1.5 billion) thus far.
The project was first expected to be completed in 2010, but was delayed to 2021, then 2019, and more recently to 2027.
Following the recommendation, a process will likely take place that could eventually terminate the Transnordestina railway contract concession.
