Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) has been approved to launch a technical, economic and environmental feasibility study to advance construction of its Transnordestina railway, a 1,073-mile railway project that was expected to be completed in 2010.

A Piaui state government news agency said Transnordestina should receive about BRL 560 million in investments this year from the Brazilian government and private partners to advance works at the delayed railway.

The latest forecast for completion is 2019.
