Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has announced that in August this year industrial production in the country decreased 3.8 percent compared to July, but was down 5.2 percent from August last year. In July, industrial output in Brazil increased by 0.1 percent month on month.
In the first eight months of this year, industrial production in Brazil was down by 8.2 percent on year-on-year basis.
According to the announcement, in the eighth month of this year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil decreased by 4.3 percent and output of capital goods rose by 0.4 percent, output of consumer goods narrowed by 1.6 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved down by 9.3 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods dropped by 0.9 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In August of the current year, Brazil's metal products output increased by 1.3 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 6.3 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers moved down by 4.8 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the January-August of this year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 11.8 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 14.4 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers diminished by 18.8 percent, all compared to the same period of 2015.
