CAAM: China's auto vehicle sales up 8.3 percent in January-May

In the January-May period this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 11.384 million units and 11.496 million units, increasing by 6.5 percent and 8.3 percent year on year, respectively, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

In May alone, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 2.372 million units and 2.417 million units, decreasing by 1.4 percent and increasing by 2.5 percent month on month, while rising by 1.7 percent and 1.5 percent year on year, respectively.

In the first five months, production and sales of new energy vehicles in China amounted to 3.926 million units and 3.895 million units, rising by 30.7 percent and 32.5 percent year on year. In the given period, the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles (NEVs) stood at 33.9 percent.

In May, production and sales of new energy vehicle in China totaled 940,000 units and 955,000 units, up 31.9 percent and 33.3 percent year on year, with the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles (NEVs) standing at 39.5 percent.
